Dick Hilburn was born January 18, 1919 in Bladenboro, North Carolina. He had no legs and his left arm ended at the elbow, and he used a custom-made skateboard to get around. Together with his showbusiness partner, Carl Norwood, "The Frog Boy", Hilburn ran his own sideshow, where he worked not only as a freak but as a tattoo artist and banner painter.
